Like the article says"just go with what was ever on the bike originally", thats what I do. I've thought about other tires but stay w/ the dunlaps. I like the miliage riders are getting off that dual compound tire.

Metzelers have been mentioned as a good touring tire and good in the rain.

I use to run Carlisles when that had the flat profiles not the rounded one that most touring tire have today.

I tried conti's and then went back to the Dunlops - now I have the Michelins - I'm about 1/2 way through them... I like the ride better with the Michelins - so far at least.

A lot of riders are under the impression that HD tries to constuct their rigs on the cheap. I disagree, it doesn't make sense. I feel based upon alot of reading and research over the years that HD makes the best bikes possible given their engineers abilities limitations and compliance factors. I figure HD bikes are configured with the particular components they are configured with for reasons beyond because its cheap. Of course this will be the first bike I've left stock.

I bet the best way to get the best MPG and reliability is to leave it stock. I'll keep youse posted.

I believe that HD is one of the best motorcycle manufacturers on the planet - and the bikes are a very good value for the money. I've had mine for almost 20 years - with very little problems... so far. I also think that they use very high quality parts and accessories.
Given the fact that there is constant new technology and development - we as owners should keep an open mind to aftermarket equipment and the willingness to try new products.

I went after market with my 1983 from 1984-2007...whats that 23 years? I still have my 1983 FL and some the OEM parts are just now wearing out(front pulley) the aftermarket stuff has been gone thru a couple times. Unfortunately because of the age I've had to use aftermarket parts. Maybe todays after market parts are better but I'm still OEM as much as possible. Not knocking anyone who does, viva la diference.
